Dream 4: The Mystical Union with the Unus Mundus or One-World

I woke with a clear image of a new-born baby in the centre of a mattress, strapped in by two bands that formed a cross which I believed to be a depiction of the Philosopher’s Child (Jung, 1989; Raff & Vocatura, 2002).  This realisation occurred many months later whilst reading the work of Raff & Vocatura (2002, p. 139), who described that the Divine-Divine ‘creates the [outward] Philosopher’s Stone, the filius philosophorum’.  

The filius philosophorum is Latin for the philosopher’s child, also known as the ‘“sun-moon child”’ who is laid in the cradle of the four elements’ (Jung, 1989, p. 219).

This description appeared to be similar to my dream of the new-born baby in the centre of the ‘four’ corners of the mattress. Raff (2000, p. 159) further relates the filius to ‘the miraculous incarnation of the divine in his soul’ and to the mystical union with the unus mundus (p. 157). I understood this dream to be a depiction of the Philosopher’s Child and the process of union with the unus mundus.
